5: Duces to Ducey

The article written by Arizona Governor Doug Ducey, "Why Arizona needs more college grads" expands on the necessity of Americans to attain a college degree to continue their pathway to success.  Ducey expanded on the promotion of Arizonians becoming educationally ready by 2030, using funds from Prop123 and state funding of over $180 million dollars to achieve this goal. I agree with his statement that college readiness is a critical part of students beginning their pathways to higher education.unemployment for Americans with a college degree is more than a third lower than the national average.

Better outreach programs to educate young students on possible career path would be incredibly beneficial to the current roster of necessary changes. As a student, i feel as if i was woefully unaware of my future prospects during my time in high school, only to be left high and dry without any assistance until i found my own my to higher education. Current standards to promote students learning of future career path does not take place until their Junior/Senior years of high school, where it should be introduced at the end of 8th grade-early high school years as to expose children to the idea of future pathways. It is instrumental to provide children the resources to counselors with various school to discuss their futures, a feature than has not been implemented for many lower income high schools around the valley.

Higher salary pay for teachers would aid in the ability for teachers to promote learning in the classroom.  A survey conducted by the National School Supply and Equipment Association - a trade group representing the school supply industry - found that teachers pay for 77 percent of the school supplies needed in their classrooms. The rest comes from the school, parent-teacher groups and other school funds. These teachers are not only giving up their time, but also their hard earned money for students that deserve more than what they are given. A higher salary to support the teaching staff would bring about more funds/promotion for teachers to push the educational agenda forward, if Arizona wishes to continue being competitive in an educational stature.

In the words of our former president Barack Obama, "college graduation has never been more valuable than it is today."
